The first series made in Kathryn’s new studio in British Columbia, the octopus series celebrates one of her favourite animals, the Giant Pacific Octopus. Kathryn made the background for many of these pieces with crushed mussel shells. collected from local beaches.
About this Piece
This is a mixed media painting made with resin, natural mussel shells and metal leaf. The edges are painted black to match. The textured surface created by the mussel shells resembles the skin of the octopus. This piece has mixed metal leaf with predominantly silver and gold tones.
This one of a kind original measures 20" round on cradled birch wood, with 0.75" stretcher bars. It has been stamped on the back by the artist’s custom aspen leaf stamp.
This painting is unframed, but hanging hardware is attached and the edges are finished to match (see photos) so you can hang it as is, or add a frame that suits your decor. Please use caution when handling the painting, because some of the shell pieces have sharp edges.
